Guidelines for Selection of Fire Fighter Pump

Selecting a suitable fire fighter pump requires comprehensive consideration of factors such as fire protection system design requirements, building characteristics, and regulatory standards. The core is to ensure that the pump's performance accurately matches the actual fire-fighting needs. As a manufacturer with years of experience in the fire fighter pump field, Teffiko has summarized an efficient selection logic based on regulatory requirements and practical experience to help you accurately match your needs.

Selecting a suitable fire pump can be simplified into three core steps:

1.Determine parameters

The first step in selection is to determine the basic parameters that must be met according to the building fire protection design, which is the "baseline" for selection:

  • Flow rate (Q)

Calculated according to the type of fire-extinguishing system: For the hydrant system, it is based on the number of water guns used simultaneously; for the sprinkler system, it is based on the hazard level, and the simultaneous flow rates of different systems are superimposed.

  • Head (H)

Calculation formula: Head = static pressure of fire-fighting facilities at the highest point of the building (e.g., about 90m for a 30-story building) + pipeline friction loss (calculated based on pipeline length and diameter) + local resistance (loss from valves, elbows) + safety margin (usually 10%-20% added).

Note: Insufficient head will result in insufficient pressure at the most unfavorable point (such as the top-floor hydrant), making it impossible to effectively extinguish the fire; excessive head may cause the pipeline to burst due to overpressure.

2.Select the type

High head (above 50m), medium flow rate → centrifugal pump (suitable for high-rise buildings);

Large flow rate (above 80L/s), low head → axial flow pump (suitable for large-space factories);

Medium containing impurities → self-priming/sewage pump; corrosive medium → stainless steel pump.

3.Consider the scenario

Choose explosion-proof type for explosive places, vertical pumps for small spaces, and backup pumps with the same parameters for important buildings. They must also pass the 3C certification to ensure compliance and reliability.

With years of experience in the industry, Teffiko provides a full range of fire fighter pumps and free selection consulting services, guarding safety with reliable products. From high-head multistage pumps dedicated to high-rise buildings to large-flow axial flow pumps suitable for industrial scenarios, it covers conventional as well as special customization needs such as explosion-proof and corrosion resistance. With 7×24-hour after-sales response, every fire fighter pump can handle emergencies calmly at critical moments.
