Daily Maintenance and Repair of Chemical Pumps

1.Can't turn the pump manually? Never start it forcefully!

When manual turning is obstructed, do not start the pump by energizing it directly! This usually indicates serious internal abnormalities: impeller stuck by crystals, bent pump shaft, rusted and engaged moving and stationary parts, or excessive residual pressure in the pump cavity.Forcing a start will cause the motor's powerful torque to be instantly transmitted to the damaged parts, which is likely to result in shaft breakage, impeller fragmentation, motor burnout, or even electrical tripping. The correct approach is: cut off the power supply to investigate the cause, and disassemble the pump for inspection if necessary.

2.Vibration and Bearing Temperature

According to industry general standards:

  • Vibration limits:

Rotational speed < 1500 rpm → Amplitude ≤ 0.09 mm

Rotational speed 1500~3000 rpm → Amplitude ≤ 0.06 mm

  • Bearing temperature upper limits:

Sliding bearing ≤ 65℃

Rolling bearing ≤ 70℃

Exceeding the range? Stop the machine immediately to check alignment, foundation bolts, bearing wear, or lubrication status.

3.Water in lubricating oil? The hazards are beyond imagination!

Although the mixing of moisture into lubricating oil seems minor, it actually poses numerous hidden dangers:

  • Reduced viscosity → Weakened oil film strength → Increased friction
  • Freezing at low temperatures → Loss of fluidity → Difficult startup
  • Accelerated oxidation + Formation of organic acids → Corrosion of metals
  • Increased foaming → Interruption of lubrication → Local overheating
  • Induction of rust → Shortened bearing life

Recommendation: Regularly sample and test the water content of the oil, especially in humid or frequently flushed areas.

4."Three-level filtration" of lubrication: Details determine success or failure

To prevent impurities from entering the bearings, lubricating oil must undergo three-level filtration:

5.From original barrel → Fixed oil storage barrel

6.From fixed barrel → Oil can

7.From oil can → Equipment oil filling pointUse filter screens of different meshes at each level (usually 80→100→120 meshes) to ensure "clean oil enters clean cavity".

8.Daily maintenance is more than just "wiping dust"

Genuine pump maintenance covers three aspects: system, tools, and execution:

  • Strictly implement post responsibility system and spot inspection system
  • Maintenance tools, fire-fighting equipment, and safety signs are complete and properly positioned
  • Implement "five-fixed lubrication" + "three-level filtration"
  • Lubrication equipment is kept clean, dedicated, and not mixed

Five-fixed lubrication: Fixed point, fixed time, fixed quantity, fixed quality, fixed person — none can be missing.

6.How do chemical pumps work? Understanding the principle enables better maintenance

Most chemical pumps are centrifugal, and their core principle is:Motor drives impeller to rotate at high speed → Liquid is thrown out by centrifugal force → A low-pressure area is formed at the center of the impeller → External liquid is continuously sucked in under the action of pressure difference → Continuous transportation is achieved.Precisely because it relies on "pressure difference" and "rotation", any factor affecting balance (such as cavitation, blockage, eccentricity) will be quickly reflected in performance.

7.Lubricating oil (grease) is more than just "reducing friction"

High-quality lubricants perform six major functions:

  • Lubrication and cooling: Reduce friction and temperature rise
  • Flushing: Carry away wear particles
  • Sealing: Block the intrusion of pollutants (such as bearing cavity)
  • Vibration reduction: Absorb impact energy
  • Protection: Rust prevention, corrosion prevention, oxidation resistance
  • Load reduction: Share local loads

Choosing the wrong oil? It's equivalent to letting the equipment "run naked".

8.Leakage standard: How many drops are normal?

Shaft seals allow slight leakage, but it must be controlled within a safe range:

  • Packing seal: Light oil ≤ 20 drops/min, heavy oil ≤ 10 drops/min
  • Mechanical seal: Light oil ≤ 10 drops/min, heavy oil ≤ 5 drops/min

Exceeding the limit? It may be due to wear of the sealing surface, spring failure, or improper installation, which needs to be handled in a timely manner.

9.Vibration causes are more than one!

Common causes of chemical pump vibration include:

  • Poor coupling alignment / Aging rubber ring
  • Insufficient suction pressure → Cavitation or dry running
  • Rotor imbalance / Partial blockage of impeller
  • Wear of bearing or wear ring → Rotor eccentricity
  • Loose foundation / Insufficient stiffness
  • Improper lubrication (too much or too little)
  • Abnormal axial thrust → Shaft movement

Recommendation: Establish a vibration trend chart to detect and intervene early.

10.Preventive maintenance = Cost saving + Safety guarantee

Rather than spending a lot of money on emergency repairs, it's better to spend 10 minutes a day on spot inspection. A complete chemical pump maintenance system can not only extend the equipment life by more than 30% but also avoid safety and environmental risks caused by leakage and shutdown.

Conclusion: Professional protection starts with one pump

Behind the stable operation of chemical process equipment, scientific maintenance concepts and reliable technical support are indispensable.
